May 2022: Turnitin issues on QMplus

6 May 2022 Posted in: Announcements, News By: Alysa Bramble

This article includes the following in relation to this issue:

Turnitin Error Message: File failed to upload

There is currently an issue with QMplus assignments being submitted to Turnitin.

The issue does not impact all users, but some students receive an error message when they submit their assignment in QMplus.

This message states: Turnitin has returned an error with your submission. The file failed to upload.

This means students might not receive the similarity report they would normally expect, and the TurnItIn Feedback Studio cannot be used for marking those assignments.

This error message does not mean the assignment has not been submitted to the course. As can be seen in ‘Submission status’ highlighted in green in the image below, the assignment has been ‘Submitted for grading’.

Students can be reassured as long as the highlighted ‘Submitted for grading’ message appears then the assignment has been successfully submitted to the course and is safely stored on QMplus.

There is currently a backlog of Turnitin submissions. If the file fails to submit to Turnitin please be patient as the submission will go through once the queue shortens – you do not need to resubmit your files again.

The issue is with the connection to the Turnitin plagiarism-detection server, as the automatic onward submission to the Turnitin server appears to fail in some instances. This means students might not receive the similarity report they would normally expect, and the TurnItIn Feedback Studio cannot be used for marking those assignments.

Receiving Multiple Turnitin Digital Receipts

There are also users receiving more than one Turnitin digital receipt for a single submission to an assignment, as a result of this wider issue we are experiencing. This occurs due to the system attempting to obtain the originality score for the submission.

If you are experiencing this and you have received your QMPlus submission receipt, rest assured your file has been successfully submitted to QMPlus and the wider issue will not affect the date and time of your submission. Please see our guide here for further details : Submission receipts for assignments.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this is causing and thank you for your continued patience.
