For the vast majority of the time, you will access Turnitin via QMplus using your standard QMUL user name and password. You can set up Turnitin assignments, view similarity reports and use the Turnitin GradeMark tools, all through QMplus, without worrying about a Turnitin account.
There are, however, a very small number of circumstances in which you may need to log in to the Turnitin service directly to access functionality which is not available through the integration with QMplus. e.g. it is not possible to bulk download assignments which have been marked with the Turnitin GradeMark tool without logging in to Turnitin directly. In this case you will need to know your Turnitin user name and password to log in via the TurnitinUK website.
This guide covers
Before you start
This guide assumes that you have already accessed a Turnitin assignment through QMplus. You may have:
- Created a Turnitin assignment in a QMplus course area or
- Accessed a Turnitin assignment created by someone else
If you have never accessed Turnitin at all through QMplus, you may not have had an account created and the instructions that follow may not work. If this is the case, you should raise a ticket on the Helpdesk and ask for further instruction.
You will also need to know:
- Your email address as shown in your QMplus profile
- Your last name, as shown in your QMplus profile
Retrieving your Turnitin password
- In a web browser, go to the Turnitin website on http://www.turnitinuk.com/
- Click on the Log In button
Click on the “Reset Password” link.
- Enter the email address used in your QMplus profile
- Enter your last name as used in your QMplus profile
- Click on the Next button
You will receive a message saying that a password reset link has been sent to the email address that you gave. Check your email account for the message containing the password reset link. It may take a few minutes to come through. If it seems to be taking a long time, check your junk email folder.
Once you have the email, either click on the link or copy and paste it into a web browser.
You will now have to enter a password for Turnitin. As this is a third party service, we recommend that you do not use the same password as you use for QMplus.
Click on the Next button.
Your password for the Turnitin service has now been reset. Remember, you only have to use this password when you access Turnitin through the TurnitinUK web site. Your log in credentials to QMplus remain unchanged.
Click on the link to return to the TurnitinUK home page to log in.
On your first log in to TurnitinUK, you will be presented with a user profile data screen as shown above. You do not need to change any of the information except:
- Choose a security question from the list
- Type your answer. This will give you another level of security on your Turnitin account and another way to retrieve your password should you forget it in future.
- Click on the Next button
You will then be asked to agree to TurnitinUK’s terms and conditions after which you will be logged in to Turnitin. On subsequent logins you will not have to go through the user profile and terms and conditions steps.
It didn’t work, what do I do?
If you followed the instructions on this page and are still unable to access Turnitin through the web site, raise an ITS Helpdesk ticket and a member of the support team will help you.
Did this answer your query? If not, you can raise a ticket on the online Helpdesk or email: firstname.lastname@example.org . Alternatively you can also request a particular guide or highlight an error in this guide using our guides request tracker.
