E-learning Testing and Support Officer Role

We are looking for an E-learning Testing and Support Officer to assist with testing and supporting the new/upgraded technologies we aim to implement this summer (listed below). The candidate should be familiar with Moodle and Echo360 at both user, designer and administrator levels and work well under pressure. The post holder should be comfortable learning and using new technologies independently, and have the ability to pay close attention to detail as well as see the bigger picture.

There are a number of new projects underway to enhance and develop our existing learning technologies. These include:

  • QMplus Upgrade (Moodle 3.0 to 3.2)
  • QMplus Theme updates
  • Q-Review Upgrade (Cloud based solution – SaaS)
  • QMplus Hub upgrade (Mahara 15.10 to 16.10) and development to support the QMUL Model

Background

The E-Learning Unit provides strategic direction for the use of learning technologies in QMUL and works to promote, support and develop e-learning and distance learning across the institution.  We are responsible for University-wide e-learning applications such as the online learning environment, QMplus and QMplus Hub (based on Moodle and Mahara), Q-Review for lecture capture (based on Echo360), and Turnitin for plagiarism detection.  In addition, we offer a number of facilities (space, hardware and software) to encourage innovative practice.


Duties

The successful candidate will:

•        Create test use cases and scripts using a range of tools, such as automated regression testing software

•        Carry out tests on upgraded QMplus environments with an applied updated theme

•        Carry out tests on upgraded Q-Review environments

•        Carry out tests on QMplus Hub environments

•        Report on failures and anomalies using a bug tracking system

•        Develop and update user guides and training materials to include new and enhanced functionality

•        Support these projects and general e-learning activities through second line support

•        Disseminate knowledge and materials to colleagues in both the ELU and IT Services so they are equipped to answer related queries

Pay and hours

The post is full time and fixed term for 6 months. Starting salary will be in the range £32,405 – £38,062 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and defined benefit pension scheme.
