E-Learning Assistants – QMplus Upgrade

The E-Learning Unit is seeking to employ two E-Learning Assistants on a part-time basis to assist with various tasks. The work is expected to begin in April and the majority of work will be completed by July 2014, with the possibility for extension until October 2014.

Background

QMplus, the University’s Online Learning Environment, will be upgraded over the summer of 2014. This work requires testers to ensure that the new environment meets the required standards. We will also need  user guides and resources to be created or updated as well as people on hand to assist Academic staff with using the new features that will become available.

Duties

The post will work under the guidance of a member of the E-Learning team and training will be provided. Someone with good technical skills and familiarity with QMplus (Moodle) would be most suitable.

As an E-Learning Assistant you will have to quickly familiarise yourself with QMplus functionality, and your duties are likely to include:

  1. Writing test scripts
  2. Carrying out tests in the upgraded learning environment
  3. Reporting on failures and anomalies
  4. Writing user guides
  5. Creating video resources
  6. Assisting with communication of upgrade plans to end-users (e.g. creating flyers, sending emails and notices, posting to online forums)

E-Learning Assistants may also be asked to play a supportive role after the upgrade by offering assistance to Academic staff in the following areas:

  1. Adding assessment activity to online courses
  2. Adding course enrolment mappings
  3. Guiding staff with new tools and features available
  4. Assisting second-line with basic functional and administrative support

 

Person specification

We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes:

  • Good technical ability – comfortable using new software and can grasp new technologies on their own
  • Ability to work autonomously – can balance workload and manage own time in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise initiative
  • Dedicated, reliable
  • Good organisation skills
  • Adapts quickly to changed circumstances, and seeks practical solutions
  • Seeks and welcomes feedback, responds positively and implements lessons learned
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of QMplus, the University’s Online Learning Environment would be desirable
  • Knowledge of video creation and editing would be desirable

 

Pay and hours

The post will be paid at the rate of £12.00 per hour.  The number of hours you will be required to work will be negotiable and will depend on your particular availability, up to a maximum of 25 hours per week (20 hours for international students) during term time. You will be required to complete work between April and July 2014, with the possibility of extending this until the end of October 2014.  There are no minimum hours guaranteed.
