Blackboard Collaborate Decommissioning Update

19 May 2022 Posted in: Announcements, News By: Simon Durrant

It was announced in the April newsletter that Blackboard Collaborate will be decommissioned from the 1st of July 2022. In the run-up to this date, TELT will be busy copying across the many thousands of recordings from the Blackboard Collaborate server to QMplus Media (Kaltura).

To enable us to copy as many recordings as possible we ask that you do not create any Blackboard Collaborate recordings after the 13th of June 2022.

This means that if you record a Blackboard Collaborate session after the 13th of June is very likely that this recording will not be copied across and will be unavailable after the system has been decommissioned.

So where can you find the recordings after this date?

We are going to be moving the recordings to QMplus Media (Kaltura) and this will take some time. The bulk of these recordings can be automatically moved so that they will appear in the relevant module’s QMplus Media Gallery over the following weeks.

Media Gallery QMPlus

As the Course Media Gallery is hidden from students by default you can make it available to your students by following the Making the Course Media Gallery available to students guide on the TELT website.

Why can’t you just update the existing recording links on QMplus?

Unfortunately, it was not possible to find a way to update the existing recording links for the original Blackboard Collaborate recordings to point to the recordings on QMplus Media.

Publishing to the Course Media Gallery for the appropriate module on QMplus was the easiest way to solve the problem.

Some of the older recordings, prior to September 2021, cannot unfortunately be linked directly to their respective modules on QMplus. We will be copying these recordings to QMplus Media as potentially searchable archives but we will not be able to publish them on QMplus as we do not have enough information to determine where they should go.

If you have any further questions regarding the decommissioning of the Blackboard Collaborate service please e-mail the TELT team with the Subject heading Blackboard Collaborate decommissioning.
