The Learning Technologist Group is for Queen Mary staff whose work centres on using technology to enhance learning. The group enables them to share information, ideas and good practice between all schools and departments of the college. It meets monthly in The Learning Institute and uses a networking group on QMplus Groups and Portfolios to communicate between meetings.

The August meeting featured:

  • Jess Hewson, of The Learning Institute talked about the new OU Blog and Wiki activity types, which have just been made available on QMplus. In particular, the use of tags, comments and grading work students have completed using these activity types were of interest to those attending.
  • Tim Morgan of The Learning Institute talked about tracking professional development using Mahara Groups and Portfolios. He demonstrated how templates can be used to structure reflection and how the new Mahara CPD plugin will be able to support this when it is released in September. He also demonstrated various ways CPD logged in this way can be shared with those responsible for monitoring it
  • Mark Roberts of School of Medicine and Dentistry talked about using the book resource type to present information and embedded web content in a consistent format.
