24 October 2022 Posted in: Articles Tagged: By: Technology Enhanced Learning Team

Welcome to Zaheer!

Zaheer Daleel has joined QM as the TEL Enhancement Manager in the Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT). Zaheer and his team look into ways of enhancing current learning technologies and introducing new such technologies to Queen Mary. They’ll soon be developing ‘Communities of Practice’, a new TELT Profile, and investigating innovative ways to develop technological solutions for QMUL staff and students.

Zaheer’s previous role was as TEL Manager at King’s College London, where he spent a happy six years developing tools, processes and digital literacy for all stakeholders. He worked very closely with both in-faculty and central-TEL colleagues to bring the TEL community closer & more aligned with best practices, and to share expertise.

He is a proud former school/FE teacher of PE & Business Studies and he now coaches sport several nights a week at the Newham College Sports Academy.

This month’s ‘Let’s meet…’

The latest in our series of interviews with members of the learning technology community from around the university. This month we’re getting to know Pedro Elston from the Institute of Health Sciences Education.

How is your module looking for teaching?

Is your module looking ready for teaching at the start of term? We have built a handy checklist and guide to use at the start of every term and for checking any current modules are teaching ready.

The checklist includes the basics you may wish to check to ensure that students can easily access everything they need as well as quick guides and links to our full users guides on the TELT webpages

Important changes to the QMplus archives

On Thursday November 3rd at 9am, we will be making some changes to how the archives are accessed. This will mean that the archives will be unavailable for a short time while we make the changes. We do not anticipate them being unavailable for more than 30 minutes.

After these changes are made, some of the older archives will only be available if you are on a QMUL campus or via the AppsAnywhere service or a virtual network.

These changes are being made to keep our archive sites secure.

Please read our Important changes to the QMplus archives article on our website for further information about these changes, why we are making them, who is affected and what you need to do to access the older archives.

This month’s most frequently asked questions

Question 1: What should I do for my lectures to be recorded using Q-Review? (Staff only)

Answer 1: First, check that your teaching room is Q-Review enabled by visiting our Q-Review Enabled rooms page. Once you have confirmed this, make your recording request via the bookings team by sending an email to qreviewbookings@qmul.ac.uk with the following information:

  • Where and when your event will be taking place
  • The time you need to record and duration (add time to allow for an early start or late finish)
  • How often you will need the recording scheduled for (Is it a one-time or recurring event?)
  • What the name of the module is, if applicable
  • Who requires editing access

For more information on Q-Review recording you please visit the Q-Review support page.

Question 2: How do I modify the core module information block? (Staff only)

Answer 2: You will need to turn editing on by clicking the pencil icon in the top right of your course page. Then access the settings for the module info block by clicking the little gear icon on the block itself.
Please see our guide for more information: Course creation and Settings: Displaying important information with the module info block.

Question 3: How do I ensure all students enrolled on my course receive forum notifications? (Staff only)

Answer 3: You will need to access the forum settings, then find ‘Subscription and tracking’ and set the Subscription mode to ‘Forced subscription’. This will ensure students receive the notifications from that particular forum. If this is needed for multiple forums, this must be done individually.
