Who are the E-Learning Unit?

13 November 2013 Posted in: Articles By: Technology Enhanced Learning Team

The E-Learning Unit has been through a number of staff changes over the past year, with new members joining, some leaving, and others changing roles.  We thought it would be helpful to let you know just who’s who within the team, what we all do, and more importantly why you might get in touch with any one of us…

Alysa Bramble, Senior learning Technologist (Learning Applications)

Alysa is the ‘business owner’ for all e-learning applications, such as Q-Review and QMplus.  She’s responsible for ensuring that these applications are well-run, that they meet the needs of the QML community, as well as for training and support.  Get in touch with Alysa if you, your colleagues or your students need training or development; if you have an idea for how an e-learning application might be enhanced; or if you have issues with e-learning support via the Helpdesk.

Brett Lucas, Senior Learning Technologist (Policy and Change Manager)

Brett is the lead for e-learning policy development and change projects.  He works closely with Schools, Departments and Institutes to determine how e-learning might best enhance the student learning experience within particular contexts.  Brett is also heavily involved in evaluating the user experience of e-learning, is responsible for the design of the QMplus interface and sits on project boards for new learning technologies.

Get in touch with Brett if you need advice on developing your own strategy or policies regarding e-learning or if you would like advice on running pilot projects in e-learning.

Christina Mairs, Learning Technology Officer

Christina provides developmental support for e-learning applications via the IT Helpdesk.  QMplus, Q-Review or other e-learning queries that need the skills of a learning technologist are passed to Christina to investigate.  She also runs QMplus drop-in sessions, student induction talks and e-learning workshops.  You will mostly communicate with Christina via the helpdesk, but may meet her in person at e-learning events or workshops you attend.  Get in touch with her directly if you would like to share what you are doing in e-learning with others across the College.

Gill Ritchie, Learning Technologist

Gill provides direct support for e-learning by running workshops, providing one-on-one advice and developing online materials for our current applications.  She also investigates new technologies and how these might sensibly be used to support learning at QML, teaches on the CAPD’s Academic Development Programme and has overall responsibility for the E-Learning Studio.  Get in touch with Gill if you need guidance or support with using e-learning in your teaching; are interested in using a new technology but aren’t sure where to start; or have an idea for a small e-learning project you’d like to embark on.

Manoj Singh, Learning Technologist

Manoj provides direct support for e-learning by running workshops, providing one-on-one advice, developing online materials for our current applications and investigating new learning technologies.  Manoj has responsibility for the ELU’s communications, manages the monthly newsletter and has a particular interest in the use of multimedia in teaching.  Get in touch with Manoj if you need guidance or support with using e-learning in your teaching; are interested in using a new technology but aren’t sure where to start; or would like to share what you are doing in e-learning with others across the College.

Rume Begum, E-Learning Application Support Analyst

Rume provides technical and administrative support for e-learning applications via the IT Helpdesk.  QMplus, Q-Review and other e-learning queries that require in-depth experience of these applications are passed to Rume to investigate.  She also runs QMplus drop-in sessions, helps with e-learning training workshops and is responsible for maintaining our bank of Frequently Asked Questions and online materials.  You will mostly communicate with Rume via the helpdesk, but may meet her in person at e-learning events or workshops you attend.

Stella Ekebuisi, Head of E-Learning

Stella oversees all of the unit’s services and is responsible for developing e-learning to support the ambitions of Queen Mary and in line with innovative developments outside of the institution.  Get in touch with Stella if you have an idea for a medium or large scale e-learning project that may involve or benefit other areas of the College; are interested in evaluating e-learning activities you are involved with; or have any suggestions or feedback about the services and support offered by the ELU.
