Let’s Meet … Michael Parkes (Wolfson Institute of Population Health)

1 July 2022 Posted in: Articles Tagged: By: Rume Begum

My name is Michael Parkes and I am an E-Learning Technologist for the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. I have worked at Queen Mary for nearly six years.

In my current role, I support the teaching of the Masters programmes, on-site learning and distance learning. I am responsible for:

  • Preparing the QMplus course areas
  • Arranging for lectures to be recorded and released
  • Training lecturers how to use QMplus features
  • Liaising with admin staff to transfer marks from QMplus to MySIS

Achievements

In September 2020, I trialled a hyflex approach to teaching and learning using the Q-Review live streaming feature. You can read about the article here.

I also worked with my colleagues to pilot the use of the bulk feedback upload and release options within QMplus assignments.

Projects I am currently working

I am currently going through our Institute’s landing pages and courses to ensure that they remain accessible and clearly laid out in the new theme update.

What I enjoy doing

Outside of work, I love to play tennis and have been playing team tennis competitively for the last 15 years. I also enjoy watching football with my family and am a season ticket holder at Arsenal FC.
