TELT015 – A comparison of Zoom and MS Teams in teaching

Zoom or MS Teams? Which one is better for online teaching?

QMUL supports both Zoom and MS Teams video conferencing platforms. Both platforms are accessible using your QMUL account, and available for online teaching, webinars, communication with students, meetings with colleagues and more.

This 60 minute session offers a comparison of the main functionality of Zoom and MS Teams for online or mixed mode teaching. Attendees will gain an understanding of the basics of what each platform can and cannot offer so as to make an informed decision as to which is most suitable for their teaching and learning requirements.

These sessions are designed to show you the most commonly used functions of the tools, explore how you can use them with students, give you some hands-on practice and have discussions with other participants.

This session will be delivered online. A link to access the session will be circulated to you the day before the session is due to take place.

In order to attend the session, you will need to book on via the course booking system.

The sessions are available to all staff, but relevant to those who are directly involved in teaching and assessment. PhD students, please note these sessions do not contribute towards skills points.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Access and navigate around each platform.
  • Understand the main features of each platform.
  • Understand the advantages and limitations of each.
  • Know where to get support for each platform.
