On 17th March Professor Henri Huijberts, Deputy Dean for Education in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, facilitated a webinar with presentations from colleagues on our transnational programmes. With face-to-face teaching in China suspended before face-to-face teaching in the UK, they had been working to move their teaching online slightly before colleagues in the UK. In this webinar, hosted in Blackboard Collaborate, they described their experiences so far and what has worked for them, covering both pedagogy and technology.
The webinar consisted of 4 presentations of approximately 15 minutes each which were then followed by a question and answer session. The webinar was recorded in Blackboard Collaborate, however, to make things easier we have divided the recording up into sections and made these available as standalone videos which can be accessed below. We’ve also included a resources section at the bottom of the page which gives further information on some of the topics raised in the presentations.
On this page you’ll find:
- Experiences on the Nanchang joint programme
- Experiences on the BUPT joint programme
- Experiences on the NPU joint programme

Some further information on technologies mentioned in the presentations:
- Using Blackboard Collaborate – Blackboard Collaborate is QMUL’s centrally supported virtual classroom/webinar software. The E-Learning Unit are running online sessions, in Collaborate, on how to use Collaborate. There is also a Blackboard Collaborate guide on our website and guidance on how to run online sessions.
- Ways to record yourself:
- Universal Capture – if you already use Q-Review with your students you can use the Universal Capture software to record on your laptop and publish to Q-Review
- QMplus Media/Kaltura – our institutional media server, QMplus Media, provides access to software for recording videos called Kaltura Capture. This software is also available to students to allow them to make videos. You will find a guide to making recordings with Kaltura Capture on our web site.
- Recording in PowerPoint – It is very easy to make a voice over PowerPoint recording in PowerPoint itself. We recommend you save the recording as a video file and then upload it to QMplus Media.
